Lotus Elan m100 - Keys may be locked in the boot

PostPost by: DaveSimpy » Tue Jan 09, 2018 10:36 am

Hi Guys,

I've signed up to the site ask for some help. I'm actually helping a friend out as he asked me for help as i'm a bit more practical than him and have all the tools, which he doesn't.

I've actually got a Ford Capri which I tinker with, which is another reason I think he asked for help.

So, he thinks he's locked his keys in the boot. He's actually blaming his wife :)

We need to get in the boot to see if they are actually in there. He has no spares but i'm sure he will after this.

I appreciate you will not post any how to procedures on a public forum for security reasons. I'm also more than happy to prove that my intentions are honest in any way that's required.

Can any one please help?

Thank you very much, Dave

This will do the job. I had to open a Sunbeam bonnet once-long story.......

I have owned 6 or 7 Elan M100s. I have lost count. Have one now that they will have to pry from my dead cold hands. Great car, never gets it due.
Anyways....I honestly don't know a way to get into the boot. I would have to call a locksmith and have him do the lock. It is a GM lock. Very easy to pick.

There is no way from the interior and no way from the bottom.

Locksmith is the only way I can see it happening. Have your guy email me if he ever needs any help...and we are going to do a front big brake group buy if he is interested. I just put them on my car...what a difference it makes. tvacc*at*lotusowners*dot*com

It is possible. As suggested lotus elan central is the place to go for this. I'd be surprised if anyone is willing to post how to get in on an open forum. AA or RAC assistance should also be able to get in for your friend.

With the V5 in hand go to your nearest Lotus dealership and the ought to be able to order you new ones. No damage and you get a spare set of keys.

I once locked my keys in the boot of my old M100 and the RAC were able to lift the 'inner' edge with air bags, allowing sufficient access to recover them - BUT it rather depends where the keys are sitting inside the boot, I would think.
