MOT - issues with new computer system ?

PostPost by: PeterK » Fri Sep 25, 2015 3:45 pm

So, MOT (UK annual road worthiness test) due middle of next month and having just finished my respray and finally fixed the oil leaks (new front crank seal and sump gasket on the Zetec and rear oil seal on the gearbox), I put the Plus 2 in for its annual test.

Apparently VOSA have just changed the MOT computer system and even though my car was in the same test station as last year and I retaxed it just a week or so ago, the MOT system would not recognise the VIN number 50/xxxx Only way to start a test was to set it up as a completely new car test. So, the outcome is I have 12 months MOT whereas I should have walked away with 12 months and 3 weeks on the ticket.

Not a big sure in the bigger scheme of things, but how many other problems might I face as systems no longer recognise older VIN numbers ? Anyone else experienced anything like this ?

Yes Peter, this year I had very similar experience to yours. I put the Europa in a few weeks early at the local garage and about an hour after I left the guy rang me up because they were having problems getting it recognised on the system.

They know the car and when it was due but he said they were getting a "not known" on the registration number. Strange because I'd taxed it the week before and when we both looked it up on the DLVA it came back as taxed & MoT'd !

In the end he put in the log book details and that seemed to pacify the VOSA gremlins..... he said they'd had similar problems before but didn't know why it was happening now. I think he just put in the last part of the VIN, missing out the model number.

Had the same challenge last week. After trying a few combinations the actual string including the / worked. So for me it is 45/9707. We tried the last four digits and other variants until that worked. Of course this may not be consistent for all Loti. As a guess, an upload was done based on our log book data so if you have spaces on the log book then they will be what the computer recognises.

Be interesting to hear others experience.
