Servicing in south east / london (Barry Ely? Morland Jones?)

PostPost by: gibbon » Tue May 26, 2015 8:35 am

If I was to wish to have some repairs / servicing etc that I didn't fancy doing myself completed, where would peole recommend please?

I am based in central east London, so far I have found -

* Barry Ely Sports Cars
* Morland Jones

Anyone have any experience or view of these two please? It would be quite nice to build a trusted relationship with the garage, so I would like to chose wisely initially if possible!

The car is an early plus 2, however I didn't think this was hugely relevant and the regular Elan section seems to get more traffic.

Thanks in advance

Guess it depends what you want doing.

Although not a specialist lotus garage, I use Z Cars Engineering in Battersea. Zoran who runs the place has a genuine love of cars and really knows his stuff. He has done quite a bit to my Early Elan +2 since i bought it last year.

I'm taking it in to him soon to have drive shafts installed and brakes overhauled.

Interesting, thank you.

Any more for any more?

Any experiences of the above garages?

Hi - I used Morland Jones for 10 years on my sprint before moving out of London - first class. Reasonable rates, but more importantly, the work was top notch. They are old school Lotus experts...

Cheers

Barry has a reputation for knowing his onions and when I visited to view a car he was selling he was very helpful and honest. He just wanted too much money which is fair enough really.
maybe a bit far out west, but I have dealt with Lakeside Engineering for my elise over many years. They do a lot of older Lotus work and are excellent chaps.

I would certainly recommend Morland Jones. I had all three of my Lotus cars serviced there for over 20 years and they always did a good honest job. And were great guys to deal with!!!

Talk to Steve, a real "tell it like it is guy" and feel free to tell him I said to go there.

The only reason I don't use them any more is that I live in Colorado. I did bring my 66 Elan here and apart from re-jetting for altitude, it still runs and looks great. I had them do a full body restoration before I left the UK and they did a great job... I didn't want to have to find somebody here!

Rather than start a new thread, i thought i would ask again on the old one. Any changes?

I require some work doing to my plus 2 and though i have used Barry Ely twice, i would not return. Morland Jones i believe are out of business, so where else should i look?

Am happy to use reliable non lotus specialists should anyone have any recommendations?

Anyone used Rapid Mechanical Services LTD? Or I have found 'uk sports cars' though there seems to be some dubious online reviews, admittedly seemingly from a long time ago.

Thanks in advance
