Hungry chassis

PostPost by: twincamman » Sat Sep 06, 2014 2:34 am

So far the chassis on the exhaust side has consumed one 3/8 Allen head socket :wrench some nuts and bolts and a 4inch extension 3/8th I doubt I will ever see them again as the body will never come off as long as
I own the car ....they fall into the small hole in the chassis and into another dimension....like socks in the washing machine ..truly the voodo curse has survived ..Ed

Been there and done that on a Plus Two. It's sometimes possible to retrieve stuff using coat hanger wire with a hook on the end fed into the gap between body and chassis from under the wheel arch.

After years (decades) of Elan ownership without anything falling into these voids, I lost several tools and fasteners into the cavity of my S3-SS during my recent 'put back together', but all were retrieved with the aid of magnet on a stick, grabbers, or just a bent piece of wire.

I'm so looking forward to reuniting with that Elan in another 2 months, now that my racing season is probably over.
Lime Rock Fall Festival was just a wonderful experience. About 25 Formula Juniors to play with in our own race, the way it is meant to be.

There were also 3 or 4 Elan/ 26Rs going well at LRP. I hated to leave to come home.

When I pulled the body off the chassis of my Elan recently for the first time in 30 plus years I got a nice stock of spare Thackeray washers back that it had eaten over the years.

cheers
