180 Sprints left - I'll bet Tim has got more on his list than that!

Mmm. 661 as at December 2010, though some have been written off or are from early sales records.
Tim
Edit: And of course I forgot that these records are UK only, so all the Sprints that have fled these shores are not included

If you look at the difference between 1994 and then 2010??????
Seems like a lot of cars were off the road .....and then on the road????

Jason,
Fascinating and a good find, well done! A bit confusing where it has listed Elan S1 & S2 twice, but perhaps it's referring to series 1 & 2 M100's?
I had good fun putting in a few old models that I have had in the past, the numbers seem to stack up for Riley Elf and Wolseley Hornet as well as for Triumph Spitfire etc. I shall be glued to the screen all night now
Regards

Looking at the numbers it is interesting that generally the highest numbers on the road were around 2000, whilst the lowest were around 1995.
1995 was around the end of the last classic car price bubble bursting, but I am merely trying to find some correlation to that time and the low numbers.
1999/2000 it would appear that owners may have wanted to get their classics on the road for the millennium, a target to aim for. Much the same in fact, as all those Elans frantically being rebuilt/recommissioned right now in time to celebrate the 50th next year!
Worrying signs are the dip in S1 numbers, surprisingly small numbers of S3s and a general downward trend in +2 numbers.

Mark,
It didn't have a 1340, I could only run to a 1275GT with my wallet in those days, but it had genuine tec del minilites with cooper s offsets and all the brakes and other running gear, I sold it for ?2400 in 2003, having spent most of that in the previous 5 years. A couple of months ago it was on Ebay and sold for ?3900.00, it was nice to see that my handywork was still looking good apart from a few tarty stripes and badges and someone had sold those 10" minilites and put on the cheapy 12"
Jason, sorry for thread hijack, hope you don't mind.

No worries, but I think there is something wrong with your Mini.

The website does not really explain the numbers. I think as it is from DVLA the numbers are taxed vehicles so not SORN or un-SORN.

and it only states 20 in total ,2010...

There never were any Elan S1s, either the Ron Hickman or Peter Stevens versions.
As with all statistics; this is a crock o'shite.
Cheers,
Pete.

If you click on the vehicle name it gives you how many are SORN. That's interesting.

Absolutely! Thirty-six 1949 S4 Elans on SORN. Remarkable.
Cheers,
Pete.
