Just thought I would get to post the first entry into the new section !!!!
Who is going ?
I will be trailering my Elan up with the family from Melbourne. Though i am tempted to drive the plus 2 up but I dont think my wife would be happy without aircon all that way and its a bit cramped for my son in the back plus luggage
cheers

THINKING about it... Just wondering how an S4 would handle the trip from Sydney - especially with the nightmare that is Easter traffic. She doesn't like stop-start stuff very well (read - overheating like a b@#%h)...

Evan - fit a bigger radiator and elec fan and you will be sweet.
Hey Rohan - I was worried about your elans and the Brisbane floods, didn't you used to live in Brissy?

Electric fan fitted and is on when the ignition is on - just not enough if not moving. Obviously a bigger rad is the go ($$$$). Why, Colin, did you fit a smaller rad on the S4 than the S3? Was it THAT much cheaper???

Evan,
I have the smaller, stock rad in my S4 and no electric fan and I NEVER have problems with overheating.
Ordinarily the car runs happily at around 165 degress C (which I have thought may actually be a bit cool?).
In the worst situations (40 deg heat, bumper to bumper traffic) I get up to 190 deg C, but have never gone over that.
I do know the prev. owner had the rad recored (triple) and I have a plastic multi blade fan on the pulley.
As well it has the under rad ducting (well, blocking) and vents on the LHS of the engine bay - but that's standard stuff.
I don't know. Maybe I'm just lucky. Maybe I'm not trying hard enough........

Oops.
Change those coolant temp references to degrees Fahrenheit - not Centigrade!

Hi Elliott
I think your secret is the triple core (that's 50% more radiator!!). I will reaaly have to investigate that (is there such a thing as quad core?? ).
That said, I have some corflute ready to form up into ducting when I get two spare moments together , and I am thinking seriously about cutting out the vents.

Four core radiators are available but why not just get an ally one?
Cheers,
Pete.
