Yes, but #8 has a proper Elan in it.

Can we take it that pic no 8 shows your Elan then Brian?
Gotten over all those engine water leaks then, or did you tow it there?
Atb,
Leslie

Atb,

Most perceptive, Leslie, and no towing necessary.
Water leak problem solved - it was caused by an incompetent mechanic. If we were not joined at the same hip - I would fire him.
The incompetent idiot put the wrong size 'O' rings into the water pump cartridge. It was OK to start with, but when under a lot of heat and pressure during running-in cycles, steam was seen coming out of the head vent. Even the incompetent mechanic recognised the symptoms.
As it happens no damage was caused - proved by a good set of results from the rolling-road last week.

You managed to catch me posing by my Sprint on photo # 066!!
Enjoyed the trip over - round trip of nearly 200 miles and the Lotus behaved impeccably. The last time I took the Sprint to Doninngton was in 1989 which made it even better. Had a good wander around the exhibitors and it was good to meet up with Tim, Clive and Alex Black. Was honoured to sit in the IWR ?lan which is in such superb original condition. Interested to see the Heather coloured Sprint DHC which was marked as "sold" by the end of the morning. It was up to ?12k+ on EBay so would be interested to know what it sold for. Very original but needs ?? spending to restore. Not sure of original colour but respray to original would be my first job!

We had a successful Donington 2011 and thank you to all of you who came up to us on the CLES stand and made yourselves known to us. It was marvellous to put faces to names at last - and the forum banter continues in person!
A huge and public thank you to Alex and Carol Black who not only made the long journey from Fife and back, but displayed their superb Sprint, gallantly helped me to man the stand and were great company too. Also huge thanks to andyhodg for bringing his excellent green +2 to put on the stand on Saturday and to andyelan for bringing his marvellous original condition tawny 130/5 on Sunday. I shall be in trouble with GrUmPyBoDgEr if I do not mention that he very kindly bought along a very senior B&D Workmate to help with our Ron Hickman tribute theme - thanks, John. Slowsprinter was there both days helping out but also picking Alex's brain for tips on his restoration.
We were co-located with Charles Giles and the Type 26 stand and thanks to both Charles, Kenny for his immaculate S1 Elan on the stand and to Norman Sheasby who helped man both stands both days, a useful skill for the future! Mark, Elan in the Forest, lent us his towering presence on Saturday before escaping late in the evening and again deserves huge thanks for all he has helped with the CLES formation (of which more in a separate thread). On our other side was Brian Buckland selling all sorts of Elan goodies, including seats, crash pads, fuel pumps and who had a snazzy line in dancing to the music he played!
Behind our stand, standing alone, was a monstrosity called Aufil, an Elan/Sprite special. I'll post details in a separate thread but I do hope visitors did not think it was anything to do with us!
One of the highlights for me was meeting Bill, the new owner of the incredible IWR Elan. A real enthusiast, he and Paul Matty have very lightly restored the car so that it runs well and looks so good in the flesh, the photos we have all seen to not do it justice.
One thing I learnt was that as a stand holder, getting in to Donington early on the Saturday gives you the opportunity to pop around all the stalls to see what is being sold. Mazzini, you would have got your S4 washer bottle!
I took a few snaps, only on my iPhone I'm afraid so the quality is not great.
Again, my thanks to you all.
Tim

Again, I apologise for the poor quality and terrible composition.
