Shims - getting someone to do in Sydney, Australia

PostPost by: gordont » Tue Dec 08, 2009 4:23 am

I suspect (from the chatter) that my (camshaft) shims need redoing, I admit a bit out of my depth so hoping that someone on here can point me in teh direction of any businesses/mechanics in Sydney that I can trust to do this?

Thanks in anticipation :(

You could try Cremorne Prestige at Artarmon. I havn`t had any work done by them, but the word is good. They advertise in the Club Lotus Australia newsletter. www.cremorneprestige.com.au

Or if you're confident to remove the camshafts, you could buy yourself a set of feeler gauges and a vernier gauge (the digital ones are easy as pie to use), and work out what shims you need compared to what's there.... Steve at Elan Factory, from memory, will supply exchange shims in requested thicknesses.

Gordon, suggest you start by measuring the clearances: presume you have a workshop manual and can order up in advance cam cover gasket, sealant, selocs etc. Elan Factory will send you want you need.
