What did you do to your Lotus today...
Lifted the rolling chassis off the trolley (made from TTR shipping crate lumber). Brake lines were a bear until getting proper cunifer and borrowing a Sykes-Pickavent. Still trying to figure out how the fuel line gets around the right front upper flange reinforcing which boxes it in. John

Problem solved with help of previous threads that my "new" now 7 years old alternator is not charging (no excitement or "sense" current)
- No ignition light with ignition on
- Bulb fine
- Bulb lights when circuit ground to engine
- Bulb lights when circuit ground to alternator casing
- No circuit when cleaned and plugged back into alternator
Alternator coming off tomorrow see if an internal contact has gone, question is rebuild original (in a box somewhere) rebuild "new" replacement or just buy a new one?!

Today I completed the windscreen install begun last weekend. Last weekend I mounted the seal and glass, and today I got the lockstrip done. The strip was without a doubt the most difficult, sweaty, scream-and-curse part of the job, even with the proper tool!

And a more roundabout entry: today this went online, even though it was made last weekend. My Lotus -or at least its underside- starred in this cheezy lil' safety-video I made for the podcast that I help to make.

While my car is in for paint, took the opportunity to clean up the door mechanisms and clasps. Still have a little more polishing to do on some of it but a vast improvement I think for a usually neglected part of most cars.

Whilst awaiting arrival of a propshaft and yoke from TTR (that will hopefully be correct), after cleaning the engine bay a bit I ran a replacement oil pressure pipe. The original was quite dinged, included one section completely pinched - which likely explains some of the pressure inconsistency I was seeing. I also replaced the original oil pump, which I'll rehab for a backup.

New mirrors today. The previous setup was a single Sebring-style mirror on a very low plinth, and in a fairly useless location. You can see where it was in one of the pictures. I was in a dither about what type to use. Some of the vintage Porsche styles seemed nice at first, but were pricey and I didn't fancy having MADE IN GERMANY stamped in the middle of what should be a nice smooth bit of metal. I wasn't crazy about the look of the Tex mirrors at first, but after looking online at tons of pictures of Plus 2s it seemed like they were the most popular choice, and the look did grow on me. They really do look somewhat appropriate given the era of the car. Seems like most of them were mounted up close to the quarter window and about halfway along it, but after temporarily mounting the driver seat I found this location mostly useless. Farther down and forward worked best for me and allowed the most adjustability for different seat positions. The same position on the passenger side wasn't as useful but I can still see half of it, and it's a convex type so that helps too. I wasn't too impressed by the mounting setup at first, but they seem to be secure enough and it saved having to dismount the window-motor to get fasteners on the inside.

Attempted to swing engine-transmission into 26R subframe with the recommended 30-35 degree tilt, and small jack, and shop made guidance jigs, all day, finally determining that the 32" length will not fit in the 31" space. Therefore, tomorrow will be positioning transmission, then engine, then bolting together the pair in place. It would appear those who do the connected in and out must have direct communication with deity.
