What did you do to your Lotus today...
I fitted a new braided clutch pipe.
Nasty job, but what a difference. No more stickiness. It's still heavy, but now I can feather it to prevent jerky pull offs and gear changes.
I think the old pipe was either kinked or the rubber section was swollen. It ruined the clutch feel completely.
No longer!

My 19 year old pulled the noisy diff in two hours, took it to Promotor and now tells me he can pull the engine and gearbox tomorrow to fix a gearbox tailshaft seal. There is hope for him yet and if he rebuilds the front suspension over the weekend which he says he can do I will put him back in my will.

Today he pulled the engine and transmission (on his own). It took him 8 hrs. Wish he had started before 12 though.
Box to the gearbox guy on Monday to see if there is even a seal on the mainshaft because, judging by the size of the leak I wonder if there is one.

If he did not know to drain the gearbox before taking it out, you would have got a 'massive leak' when the prop shaft was pulled out of the tail of the gearbox, there is then nothing to stop the oil pouring out.

Yesterday was getting to grips with the small of petrol in the boot that the Plus 2 has been tormenting me with. With the help of my mate Dave, we've persuaded the tank to leave the confines of the boot, with a bit of judicious moving of the rear parcel shelf and the removal of the rear body reinforcing brace. We couldn't shift the drain plug (even when the tank was out) and the banjo bolt was only finger tight. Investigation of the banjo fixing showed a lot of mastic smeared around the brazed joint, which we scraped off. It looks like the join between the banjo lug and the tank has been repaired and was still weeping - not good in a glass fibre car, and presumably why the banjp bolt was not pulled up tight.
So onto SJ Sportscars (couldn't get through to Sue) and a new tank and various ancillaries are on their way. Hopefully have it back in operation next weekend - in the meantime I'll strat on faultfinding the lack of indicators, and low reading instruments!

Well . . . . . He didn?t get the massive leak until he tipped the engine in the lift. Then, as perfectly described he got a large pool of oil.
Stripped one side of the front suspension today. Will do other side tomorrow.

Set of Keith Franck's VF Tubes, idle jets and 36mm chokes
Mains were almost plug and play, the idle jets needed some quality time with the wideband to set up the AFR but WELL worth it!! almost ever aspect is better it cruises so much smoother now, full throttle just pulls like a train...... I thought i had it running quite well with the standard jets but these are a couple of steps up at least!!
I will have to put a couple of tanks through it before i will know if the MPG is better but on first impressions it seems to be.

Well, I didn't do this just today! When I bought this Elan, ten years ago, I told the previous owner that I was going to paint the bumpers and wheels gold--I finally got around to it. Each bumper took a week to strip, repair, prep and paint:
Comments? I have painted the wheels on the left side gold and have left the other side black until I decide which colour I prefer.
This is how it looked before:
