Hi Vaughan,
what a magic moment for both of you and his school chums.

Some years ago in France I came upon this leviathan! They were not amused as it was a car show - not including Lotii! D

I'll second that from my trips into Normandy.

No apologies for posting this picture again:

Alan - you are so right. We have done many tens of thousands of miles around France in our Elan and have invariably been treated with kindness wherever we have stayed. The car certainly breaks the ice I think. Off to the Pyranees in May for more of the same. D

Last time in the Pyranees.

Do you have a route round the Pyrenees you can share… on my bucket list to do.

Cheers

Mark - yes I do. As I get older - now 80 plus - we tend to plan ahead rather than wing it. For our foray in June we are using this fantastic book - Road trips in Spain - isbn 978-0-2414-6153-2. Published by DK Eye witness. Brilliant sugestions as to wher to go, eat, stay and so on. We are doing Rioja, Arragon and Navarra on this trip zigzaging over the mountains fro Spain to France. Such fun on brilliant empty roads. Have fun mate! We will. D

What i thought to do with my Sprint was a circuit/tour in Corsica a few years ago. Organised by a Corse person.
Just never got round to it but in a Sprint i'm sure it would be fantastic.

Did my normal post race checks of the Elan after Phillip Island Historic races a week ago. I knew I had a clutch throw out bearing noise so the engine needed to come out to check that but completing the other checks would let me know if any else was needed. Everything was Ok until I checked the coolant and it was a little low in the radiator and nothing in the catch tank. No coolant leaks were apparent during the race weekend so I thought it may be leaking into the engine. Pulled the plugs and checked the cylinders with a borescope and sure enough traces of coolant apparent in cylinder 2. I pressured up the cooling system to 10 psi and could then see a small active drip into cylinder 2 so a head gasket or cracked head or block for sure see the photo below. :(

Cyl 2 coolant leak.JPG and

Never had a head gasket failure in my race engines but i guess always a first time. I hope its that and not a cracked head or block. The leak must be small as the car was not overheating during the racing. I Need to complete the build of my spare race engine and swap the engines over in the next couple of months and understand what caused the failure.

cheers

Couldn't make it to the mountains, but salvaged the weekend with a nice ride through the country - and slipped by the grand opening of the new Lotus and BMW bike dealership on the way home. A few pictures of the Seven beside its youngest sibling...
