My Garage has quite a few different types of Lotus related memorabilia, art and signs. Keeps me in the right spirit when ever I'm working on my car.

A letter regarding a Lotus 23 I bought in 1997, sadly no longer with me.

Hi Andy
It sounds like your 23 had an interesting history. Did it finally make its way to Manila after its adventures in the USA and be fitted with a twin cam? where is it now?

cheers

Hello, Rohan. Yes, all the events forecast in the letter came to pass. The twincam was probably fitted shortly after it arrived in the US and began racing with Ecurie Shirlee. Ed Brannon raced the 23 for many years, yearly at Laguna Seca for the Monterey - Pebble Beach weekend. I brought it to Manila in 1977 and raced it in the very friendly vintage series here. I retired from the track in 2006 and sold it to a friend. It is still in Manila, perhaps the only 23 in Asia outside of Japan. Here is a photo of me in the 23 in 2005. It is a lovely car. I should have kept even as art.

Doors occupy one wall of my garage and windows the other two. That leaves just one bare wall. I only have cam covers on it.

Well, they say he was always ahead of his time, Richard. I was only 14 on the date of that letter and would get the 23 some 35 years later. I can't believe it. (The factory invoice, which came with the car when I acquired it, is dated a few days earlier.)

Being a Lotus guy, even at 14, the 23 was always a dream for me. I miss it now and then.

Best,

Andy

I treated myself to this a couple of weeks back.

Now I've got to work out what to do with it.
