Hi does anyone know where in the UK I could get the front number plate letters and numbers for a elan please?

You could try Framptons and ask if they will supply the characters for their Raised Riveted plates separately.

Got mine from the latter.
When you're ordering, don't forget the new serrated washers to hold them to the grille.
