Insurance, and hi

Hi all.
I'm in the process of buying a +2, and have started contacting insurance companies. I've just been grilled about modifications but was finding it hard not to laugh at the guy on the phone. He wanted to know what modifications had been done, so I asked what he meant.... it's a 50 year old car that's been rebuilt several times, so how can I possibly list all the mods...
Anyway, I would appreciate advice on what people say in response to the 'what modifications' question. Do people declare everything that they are aware of, or does the question generally not come up?
Thanks.
Sean.

A rebuild of a car is not necessarily a 'mod'. A 'mod' is anything that has been changed from the original specification.
Is there any part of the car that is not standard specification - eg it is still a 1600 twin cam with two carburettors of the same type as original? Still has the original type of ignition? Gearbox and diff are as specification? Are the wheels still 13"? etc etc.

I have never had any issues insuring a car and I have insured performance and modified cars from a young age.
The best advice I give is choose the right specialist for the vehicle
If I am insuring a heavily modified vehicle such as my new campervan I go to a modified vehicle specialist such as Adrian Flux. They understand what is involved in a conversion and expect a long list of specific things.
My Elan is insured with a classic car Specialist. I just list the modifications and they never seemed overly worried about any of them.
I can insure an expensive modified classic car much cheaper than I can my new unmodified hot hatch.
