Looking for ex-Chequered Flag staff

PostPost by: lotus49r2 » Fri Nov 27, 2015 9:06 am

I am trying to track down the following former members of staff of the service workshops of The Chequerd Flag, which in May 1966 became the London Sports Car Centre service workshops:

John Hennessey/Hennessy/Henessey/Henessy(spl?)
David Haynes (he was an auto electrician)
Alan Stubbs (he was a racing driver and later on, team owner)
John Manktelow (think he went on to become a well-known engine builder)

I would also like to make contact with Peter Rudge, who was one of the owners of the LSCC, along with Alan Foster (who I know is no longer with us). I know that Peter's son posted on here a while back and I have PM'd him but no joy, so if anyone can suggest where Peter might be that would be most helpful as well.

Hope someone can help!

Many thanks

Michael

Maybe if you asked them nicely Classic Car Weekly might run a paragraph for you, also Club Lotus may in their magazine.

You'll struggle without an idea of where they are but www.192.com has an awful lot of data but it does cost to look at their premium results. e.g. there are shockingly 20 John Manktelow's listed. The other names will be a lot more common.

Good luck!

Thanks for your suggestions Steve, all good ones!

I have spent an absolutely b****y fortune with 192.com over the past year, they've done very well out of me, but it is a great resource, particularly when they uploaded the 2015 Electoral Roll records.

Cheers

Michael,

don't discount the free/simple things either - BT.com have a residential search on the right hand side of their website and the dreaded Facebook! Even googling the names might throw up something (well it will direct you to this thread at least!).

Thanks Steve, unfortunately some of the names, such as Trevor Howard, are relatively common and there was also a famous actor by that name, so Googling produces many, many references to him but not to the one I'm interested in!

As my enquiry was Elan-related, rather than General Lotus Discussion-related, I've been pm-ing people who have posted on the London Sports Car Centre thread (The Chequered Flag became LSCC in May 1966), with some success but I'm always looking for more ex-TCF or ex-LSCC peeps to talk to...

May I suggest that you try The Nostalgia Forum
http://forums.autosport.com/forum/10-th ... gia-forum/

Some truly remarkable people frequent the forum with remarkable contacts and memories.

Back in the eighties I owned and raced a Gemini Formula Junior-built of course by the Chequered Flag Garage, and one of the former senior people at Chequered Flag, at least that is how he described himself, introduced himself to me at Westwood race track here in Vancouver. I must have his contact details here somewhere-he sent me a brochure for my car-I will see if I can find anything. Do try The Nostalgia Forum though.

Thanks for your suggestion David.

I am a member of TNF but unfortunately several requests on there have proved relatively unsuccessful.

If you are in Vancouver do you know Vincent Howlett? He is a TNF regular and he and I correspond regularly. I also met him a few years ago when he came to the Monaco historics.

If you do find the name and/or contact details for the ex-CF guy that would be great.

Hi Michael, (fellow TNFer!) Yes I know Vince very well! He and I commentated at the Mission Historic Races for probably the last twenty years-I quit this year when they decided that the qualifying year for "Vintage" was 1993!!... I will look for my contacts details.
