Old Adverts and prices

My older brother came over from France to visit, and also to help celebrate my 65th and retirement.
He had somehow managed to keep hold of his copy of Motor Sport with the original advert for my/our car from June 71.
Very interesting prices!

Wow, that takes me back. I also bought my first Elan from an ad in Motorsport, albeit a private ad from a chap in Worksop. It was just before Easter 1968, the S2 was just over 2 years old, 20k on the clock and cost ?650 I could barely afford it, but I did ! In those days, such was the demand for good second hand cars, you had to buy your copy of Motorsport as soon as it hit the shelves and move straight away if there was anything you fancied. I remember buying my copy at 8am on a Saturday morning and ringing the chap as soon as I saw the ad. He'd already had 2 enquiries and guys were already on the road from as far away as Scotland I was in Liverpool then. I rang my then girlfriend ( now my wife) and borrowed her new Mini and we both were on the road by 9am ! I was the first to arrive and there were even more interested buyers on the way, 3 or 4 iirc. After a demo drive in which the seller scared me to death I bought it. Happy days
I used to wonder how those other prospective buyers felt arriving from such a distance only to find the car was already sold. Proper pi****d off I reckon, no mobile phones in those days
PS: Sorry Ray, hope I haven't spoiled your post, I have gone on a bit
PPS. ....or was it Autosport? Galloping senility ?

No problem Geoffers, a lovely story.
Looking at some of the other ads makes me wonder what would have happened if he had bought a db4, etype, tiger or one of the other similar priced cars! Would I have kept them this long?
