Auto Train

I am thinking of taking the Amtrak Auto Train to Florida for LOG 32. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with doing this. I don't suppose they have much experience with out "funny little cars". But can they handle them without breaking anything?
For those who don't know, it runs from Lorton, VA (just outside of Washington D.C.) to Sanford Florida and the price seems quite reasonable.

In times of old, cars used to transported by train more than they are today. Apparently, the gaps in the old fashioned rails (clickety clack, clickety clack) would hammer the wheel bearings. So they found it better to remove the wheels and put the cars om stands. I suppose modern continuosly welded rails eliminate the need?
