Hello all Elan fans from Madrid !

I am a life long Lotus fan and at last am actually in a position where I am looking to aquire one and take it to Madrid - I am specifically looking for an Elan Plus 2.

So I am reading this very knowledgeable forum avidly and learning about all the things to look out for (and not). If my quest is successful I will post a pic or two of the car attending rallies in Spain.

Looking forward to talking to and learning more from everyone here.

Hi Graham and welcome from USA! :D

As a fellow Plus 2 guy I'll be eager to read about what you find and how much fun you have with it.

Thanks very much KevJ and The Veg.

I guess you can get a Lotus for a bit less in the States ?

Somehow I doubt that, given the number of wealthy so-and-so's we have here who will bid cars up to anything and how we seem to have made high-end auctioning of cars a spectator sport, with working-class people watching them on TV and cheering for the crazy prices.

That said, there are the odd exceptions here and there. My Plus 2 is an example; I bought it a few months ago from a personal friend who needed the money but never advertised the car. I got it for what it was last sold for five years earlier, which I figure is roughly what the engine-rebuild and CV axles were worth. The downside is that I have a lot of work to do to get it into decent shape, but compared to what little data there is for recent Plus 2 sales in USA (and I'd love to know how few survive over here; mine is the only one I've ever seen in the flesh), I think I got a bargain.

Hello everyone else.

We get some of those auction programmes on TV in Spain too. I?ve never seen an Elan on the road here either, I guess there may be some down on the costas where there are more expats, but in Madrid I don?t think I?ve seen any Lotus on the road ever. Hopefully I can change that soon...
