New Plus 2 Owner

PostPost by: tonyr27 » Thu Sep 12, 2013 11:15 am

Hello,

I have just bought a 68 Plus 2 which has only had two owners, the last owner had this for 35 years.
Really looking forward to learning about the Elan and getting out and about, will be visiting the NYLOC meet later in the month were the previous owners are members.

Just need to sell my Duratec engined Caterham now which has been under used due to worsening arthritis.

Welcome, looks like a beautiful car. I had a white/black +2S 130/5... I'd still like a similar car again...

Looks like a very nice +2. A few pics of engine bay and interior would be nice.

In my opinion that probably the best colour for a +2.

Hi and Welcome Tony,

You have a nice looking car there, more pics would be nice to see.

Could I also be the first to put in a cheeky ?10 bid in for the Caterham :D .

Regards,

Chris.

Tony,
I saw your car for sale at Castle Combe earlier this year, I remember thinking that somebody would get a very nice car for not a whole lot of money.
Kindest regards

I like the alloys. What is the ignition system poking up under the bonnet?
Any other improvements?

I used to think I was unique in that I had owned my Elan since 1969 and I did once write a short piece about this fact for Club Lotus Magazine (but they never responded).

However since joining this forum I have realised that a significant number of members here have owned their Elans for a similar period of time.

It's either something about that car that leads to long time love affair with it or else all the long-time owners of Elans have gravitated to this forum.

Jason

looking at the comprehensive history supplied with the Elan - which I'm still reading
The ignition is a DTA 3D mapped system and the engine has QED 420 cams
Wheels are Minlites supplied by Tech Del
It's on a Spyder chassis and has alloy fuel tank with a Facet electric fuel pump
The diff I believe is a 3.5 which is a bit higher than standard.

Looking forward to learning more about Elans.

Sounds like the previous owner spent some money on it. Always good to know the last owner valued it highly.

Very nice car Tony. Welcome aboard. Mine was a white repaint when I bought it; I must say yours looks way better than mine did! :D Enjoy!

Hi Tony

What a beautiful car! Reminds me very much of one I used to own around 30 years ago.

Saw you mention AS elsewhere, and wondering how your car fits in with that? Not many of us about.

Hi Andy

Thanks for the comments re my Plus 2.

I went for a Plus 2 as it's easier to live with than the Caterham. Having AS makes it difficult to do some tasks on the car. I now have a leaking Clutch slave cylinder and it will be a challenge for me to replace this.

Hope to get out your direction when the racing starts at Cadwell.

Cheers.
