One more from Germany

Hello,
My name is Johannes, 54 years old, and I am happy owner of a Monaco red '66 Elan S3 Coupé.
The previous owner restored it completely in 2013/14. 2019 I bought the car in UK, fixed some details, and since Summer 2020 I enjoy driving this beauty here in Germany on road and track. Although the car is not used as daily driver, I added meanwhile many thousend miles on sunny weekends, several trackdays and long trips to the circuits (without major issues and full of confidence...).
Reading threads in this forum is a pleasure, enjoyable conversations as well as many valuable technical discussions, showing great experience and detailed knowledge. Looking forward to learn a lot and contribute where feasible.

Morning Johannes, welcome to lotuselan.net.....I have a twin of your car. Also in Monaco red but a little bit earlier than yours....mine is a late 65' car ....what is your chassis number if I may ask, mine is 4970 - you never know, they might be close in numbers.....I like that yours is also RHD.....
Hope you enjoy it here
All the best....Adam

Thanks for your welcome!
@Adam - My car is 36/5997, first registered in August 66. From the documentation I got with the car, it seems the chassis was already replaced once a long time ago and again during restoration in 2013 by a galvanized one with some reinforcements. Also the engine LP10672LBA is not the original one, as well as the gearbox, which was replaced with a Lotus-5-speed.
@Philipp - I live in Hamburg. For next year I plan to join the two trackdays in Zolder organized by "oldtimertrackdays.de", so I will pass by Duesseldorf. Maybe we can meet with the cars for a coffee and a chat?

Johannes,
The engine from your car was first fitted to an Elan +2, 50/0304, which left the factory in January 1968.
Do you happen to know the UK registration number of your car before it came to Germany?
Tim

Tim,
Thanks for the info regarding the engine.
The UK registration number was NPF30D. The previous owner provided a list of further 10 registered keepers down to the intial buyer. First change of keeper in 1981 already shows "LR872" as chassis-#. (I assume this designates a Lotus replacement chassis ?). However, placard on body states 36/5997.

Thank you.
Yes, LR### indicates a Lotus Replacement chassis unit, but the Unit No stays as the unique Elan identifier.
