Hi my name is mick and I am rebuilding a elan s1 1963. Number 42a does anyone know anything about this elan I have owned those car for over thirty years and I’ve just started the rebuild on a new chassis

Yes the chassis No is26/0042A and it is down on the lotus files as that. Regards mick

Hi Mick,
I have this early Elan recorded in my records as Unit No 3054 with, as you say, Chassis No 42a, invoiced in May 1963 to a Major JA Teague.
In 2008 it was reported as being owned by a David in Leeds as a 26R replica. That may be because these early cars tend to get referred to by their Chassis No, rather than the sole correct Elan identifier, the Unit No. (Mainly due to the factory only marking VIN plates with the Chassis No right at the start of production.) So David may well have owned Chassis No 54!
