Ancient Elan Fan

PostPost by: pgew » Sun Jan 24, 2016 8:49 pm

1971 went to look at a broken Elan coupe on the moors outside Sheffield, but the pool of water in the passenger footwell put me off, as I knew too little about mechanics. 1975 took a ride in a Christopher Neal Elan and it was everything people said, going around the corner on rails, like nothing else in its day, but not enough funds not to mention the insurance. 1997 made a film about Colin Chapman for C4 and met Ron Hickman, which was easily enough to remind me how pretty a car the Elan is. 2016 I know a little more about mechanics and would still love a DHC Elan, but it will have to be a big restoration job again on the funds front, but I will keep looking and perhaps I might get lucky.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Good luck with your quest to find your dream 'elan'. There are lots of them out there for sale with all the usual suspects and those being sold privately and sadly some on offer by scammers, beware !

You will need deep pockets, lots of space, and lots of patients, for a full restoration. But on the upside the end product will be well worth the effort and if you need any advice and encouragement there is nothing that the crew on this forum have not got the answer too if you ask for help.

Welcomde to the Forum. I assume you are looking for a RHD? My LHD will be up for sale in a few months. Totally restored, new gavanized chassis. Needs a respray and ...a high torque starter. Cheers.

Welcome, and good luck on finding a car.

By the way, was the programme you worked on "The secret life of Colin Chapman" ???

Regards
Richard
