Help identify this control cable

I've had this part on the shelf for quite some time and I wish I knew it's application. It's a solid
cable push/pull control for something . There's only two positions; fully in or fully out. The
tape measure is in inches.
Anyone have any idea? Thanks

I don’t think it’s from an Elan, but the control knob appears on an Elite dash ?

It's pretty similar to the other Elite knobs but I don't think they have a 'push' one. I can't even
think of what it can be used for. The total movement is about one inch. A vent of some sort?

It is possible the heater water valve from an elite, this is a short cable bracket fitted just under the dash with the valve just inside the engine bay

I asked Mike Ostrov, the renowned Type 14 Elite guru and his response is this:
"The cable unit is close to that we use to open/close the heater valve. I have a few of these, picked up at various swap meets. Sadly, no idea as to the original source.
Our heater cable unit has a different bezel (no chromed), different knob and can be positioned many locations between on and off."
