RIP Murray Walker

PostPost by: elans3 » Sat Mar 13, 2021 7:56 pm

RIP Murray. THE motorsport commentator throughout my 66 years. Had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times, the last time being at The Goodwood FOS in 2003 or4. I guess he was partly responsible for my lean towards motorsport in those formative years. Thanks for all those years Murray !.

It must have been over 60 years ago when I first heard a Murry Walker commentary and he has been the voice of motorsport throughout my life.

Godspeed Mr. Walker.

I loved his calling the races, especially with James Hunt providing color commentary. He took a deadly serious sport and made it fun.

The spectacle F1 became terminally ill when James Hunt passed on.
It died when Murray Walker retired.
What a duo!

Rest well Murray.

Murray said he used to get well annoyed when, having done lots of prep for a race, James would turn up having done none.
And then lean over in the commentary box and try to crib off Murray's notes.
At which point Murray would "subtly" shield them with his hand.

"Gone, gone, gone".

But not forgotten.
