In a quandary

PostPost by: john.p.clegg » Sun Feb 08, 2015 12:20 pm

Dear All
As the title states, maybe it's the cold weather, maybe it's my age but am thinking of saying goodby to the Plus 2 and going on a new quest...street sleeper...either an early ( 1959 ) Morris Minor or Triumph Herald to be a convertable with a removable tin top fitted with either a Zetec or Duratec engine with up to date running gear..
Probably not the best place to ask for opinions comments etc. but have to start somewhere..

Welcome your comments.....

Ah that age-old dilemma. I think you have to ask yourself some questions:

1) Am I getting bored of the plus 2 ?
2) Am I getting fed up with driving generally ?
3) Do I want a new project where the journey is more important than the end result ?

I think if you answer yes to most of the above it may be time to move on from the Lotus. If You've got your Plus 2 to the point where any changes may be just for changes sake, then why not embark on something new ? Does that mean that you have to sell the Lotus to fund it - or need the space ?
You need to be sure that 1week / month after selling it you won't be pining for it.

Just my thoughts.....

No,there's always something to do on it..Love it

2) Am I getting fed up with driving generally ?

Definitely not..love driving

3) Do I want a new project where the journey is more important than the end result ?

Maybe

Yes,do not have room for the Pensioners shopping trolley,The Plus2 and another " toy "
The bank balance is fine...

As age aproaches ( 02/11/1954 ),getting in and out isn't a struggle yet...but...

You need to be sure that 1week / month after selling it you won't be pining for it.

Don't have a crystal ball...but have heard lots of similar stories.

Just my thoughts.....

The fact you were thinking about it and now writing about it..............it is, mentally a done deal. All that is left is the act of selling it. Just a matter of time.

Been down this road dozens of times with collector cars.............going thru it as I write.

Straight six,...fit Fuel injection...but would still prefer a Zetec/Duratec..and a smaller car.
Thanks

Apparrently Anglias can be made into softops:

That would at least have some Lotus coherence.

How about a a campervan or minibus.
I hear there's a good demand for people carriers in Dover :D

Yes,the drawback is that Lotus did an anglia twinc but had to use a LHD model, which makes me think that there may be a problem Twinking it or Zetecing it....wheras the herald did lend a lot to the Elan...

Kev
Wrong, the demand for people carriers is not in Dover but Calais...

Love the Anglia and certainly a nice engine. The cam cover at least was not originally out of a Mk2 Cortina but maybe the rest was.

The steering wheel interests me. Claimed to be a chapman signature wheel from a Europa. It has spokes and hub like an early Elan wheel rather than Europa and I did not know these style spokes ever came with a Chapman signature or a soft rim rather than wooden rim. I also thought the chapman signature only came on wheels with the round holes in the spokes?

cheers

Yes I dont believe the Europa ever came with a Chapman signed wheel (my JPS did not have one) and I also thought the Chapman wheels only came with the holes although there was a slotted spoked signed one on ebay recently :?:
I just assumed someone had been doing a bit of "constructive modifications"

Well,I can see the steering wheel but not the column, and no mention of the problem of it fouling the carbs, which I presume was the reason for Lotus choosing a LHD?
