The album Mr. Gasser and the Weirdos - Hot Rod Hootenany, Rods and Rat Finks, SURFINK!

Hang in there with me on this one, there are a couple of music references here. I am an Ed Roth fan, and read many of his magazines/comic books in the '60s, loved the cars he built, and generally appreciated his creative and contrary attitude. I met him once at a car show and after we talked for a while he signed a T-shirt and we corresponded via snail mail in the late 90's before he passed.

A couple of days ago a buddy at the local brick and mortar guitar shop called me and said they just got a new Rickenbacker 325C64, which is a replica of the guitar used by many British Invasion groups, including the Beatles.

I drove my 1956 Chevy hot rod to see the guitar since the Elan is still in pieces during the engine refurbishment. The Chevy has a Rat Fink decal on one of the windows in memory of Ed Roth and his influence (not always the influence my parents would have wanted!) on me as a teenager. My guitar shop buddy saw the decal, raised his pant leg, and showed me an awesome Rat Fink tattoo on his right leg. Mind you, I am not inked, but I do not judge people based on body art or the lack thereof.

Anyway, he mentioned he had a copy of a couple of Ed Roth inspired Rat Fink albums, and I am presently listening to the first of the two he let me borrow.

Hopefully not too far from the original topic.

One of the favorite "T" shirts of my wonderfully misspent youth was a pic of Ed Roth's RF in a tire smoking, flames-out-the exhaust altered.

The caption on the shirt read, "Mother's Worry" like the first drawing below.

Back on topic: I am listening to Dick Dale and the Del Tones, "Mr. Eliminator" We used to go see him at the Balboa Ballroom in Newport Beach, CA.

Dale was "King of the Surf Guitar" in the '60's. He counted Jimi Hendrix among his closest friends.

Regards,
Dan

Planning the route of a car tour of Italy next year- not in the Elan, 'erself would not even contemplate that (but we will be in a two-seater convertible) so I'm listening to Anna Netrebko singing duets by Donezetti.

Good; innit?
