Interesting bit of history...and verdict!

Hi Paddy,

I didn't want to "name names"...but hiding ones light under ones bushel springs to mind :)

I hope Christian is keeping his "**Elans on Top**" collage up to date and will give it pole position!

Regards - Richard

Elan fastback news.................. not Shapecraft! In the December 2012 Classic and Sports Car magazine there is a letter from Andrew Bodman form Northampton with a photo of a fastback Elan which he says he took at Hethel about 1970 "at the back of the factory". It shows a white S4 fitted with a fastback, which appears to go in a straight line from above where the FHC rear window would be to the rear edge of the boot. The side panel has what looks like a raised intake/vent, with the fuel filler to the rear of that. It looks like there would have been a flush-fitting flap over this, had it been finished.

Anyone know anything about this car- the author asks if it was a prototype which never made production.
Unfortunately I can't scan this small photo at the moment. It is on page 40.

Pete,

There is a photo of this car in Peter Filby's 'Specialist Sports Cars' published in 1974, poor scan attached. In recognition of Ed's health I did not copy the photo of the much better looking Shapecraft on the same page.

That looks like the same car, although in the C&SC shot it is unfinished. Looks good, does it not? :D
