At 29 I bought a nearly new S2. Sold it in 1970 as it was not being used due to pressure of work - something I always regretted.
When I retired 40 years after buying the S2 I went to Matty to buy an Elise but drove out in the Sprint.

I was 20, in May of 1980. My first car. Saved up ?2150 and borrowed the remaining ?500 from my Dad. Bought it at Welling Sports Cars, in Kent. Fortunately still have it! Dont think I ever paid him back!!!!! Sorry Dad.

Just to prove I can't see a bandwagon without jumping on it, I bought mine in '82, when I was 31. It replaced a 7 that I'd had through my 20's but which went to raise the deposit on my first house.

22 in 1984 -paid ?2100 for it and then drove it from the West Country to Germany where we then lived for 3 years (RAF posting), such carefree days :!: :!: :!: :!: 8)

I bought the car from the Westland Helicopters Factory Manager and am the third owner.

Not much has happened since-3 children, 3 interesting jobs, 3 different houses and thankfully still with the same wife :!: :D

Below is the car when we bought it- WICKED

S1 at 19, S3 at 21, both sold at a modest profit, Sprint at 22, then......big leap.....(big loan, ?400 !!)....P/X for a brand new component Sprint in March `73..........then wife and furniture instead at 24 in `74. Current S3 bought at 55 and loving it (appreciating it) even more now, 6 years on.

19 in 1978 - an S4 SE FHC which i ran for 7 years as my everyday car until a Land Rover reversed into it and broke the (rusty) front turret. I sold it on after rebuilding on a new chassis and always regretted it.

Now at 50 have a Plus 2 S130 and am enjoying getting reacquainted with the delights of Lotus ownership.

OK, I'm 66 and I was 22 when I mentally owned a 66 Elan coupe 44 years ago and now have owned a 66 Elan coupe for only 7 years of actual ownership. It is the wrong color to be the same car. Due to financial stuff bought a Triumph Spitfire in 1966 instead.
This is a good thread, it has brought back some good old memories.

Hmmm . . . Traded a Royale RP2 FF for my first S3 DHC in 1975 at the tender age of 27. My current S3 FHC was given to me by my wife of 25 years (then) as a 60th birthday gift two years ago! Yes, of course we're still married!! :D :D :D 8)

Wow what an age difference in you lot as Elan owners.

Me ? well 52 when I got my current Elan S4 DHC 6 years ago. 8)
54 when I purchased my current Elise S2. :D

Been a lotus fan since my teens though +2 at 19, another +2S.130/5 at 21, then an Esprit S3 at 37 all since moved on.

Ah the memories
