Tariffs!

PostPost by: JimE » Wed Dec 23, 2020 4:42 pm

The UK have fessed up to the new variant but I suspect the EU haven't. Let's hope this ha'porth of tar on fisheries doesn't upset the ship and there is a deal that respects why the UK left.

I’m proud to officially announce that we’ve concluded our negotiations with the EU and secured a great deal which guarantees our sovereignty.

As promised, we have taken back control of our laws, borders, money, trade and fisheries and ended any role for the European Court.

Meaning that on 1st January Britain will be a fully independent nation again.

UK EU DEAL SECURED

This deal fully delivers on what the British public voted for in the referendum and in last year’s General Election, with:

✅ No role for the European Court of Justice and no requirement to follow EU law

✅ A zero tariff and zero quota arrangement

✅ Recognition of the UK’s sovereignty over our fishing waters

✅ Britain outside the Single Market and Customs Union

✅ Co-operation on law enforcement and emerging security challenges

✅ Protections for the UK’s internal market and Northern Ireland's place within it

And this deal will allow us to make 2021 the year we show what Global Britain means to the rest of the world: striking trade deals with new markets, reasserting ourselves as a liberal and free trading nation; and acting as a force for good in the world.

So I hope you’ll support me in welcoming this historic agreement as we enter a proud new chapter in our history.

Thank you for everything you have done to support our Party, your backing is how Britain has been able to reclaim its sovereignty today.
Yours sincerely,

Boris Johnson
Prime Minister

Brilliant! Hopefully everyone can just get on with it now we’re no longer her a part of the United States of Germany.

I think Scotland will push to be independent now.
I understand they will be able to vote on that in 2024.
If Scotland becomes independent there's a chance they will want to join the EU.
They already have their Parliament so they are ready. Plus in the Brexit vote they voted to stay in the EU

Whatever you think of Nicola Sturgeon's politics she does seem to have done a brilliant job of outmanoeuvring the Westminster politicians. Instead of the usual face to face finger stabbing and spittle flecked confrontations you normally get from Tories vs, well, anyone else really she's quietly undermined the foundations of their arguments and positions while they've been distracted. Anything north of the border now has to go through her, with Boris seemingly reduced to having an advisory role only. I'll personally be sorry to see the breakup of the union if it happens but I think the only hope of stopping Indyref 2 now is if for some unexpected reason her political career comes to a rapid halt and someone more 'pliable' takes over. The way she's worked to get to this position since the first referendum will be studied in university politics departments for a long time to come.

I cannot stand the poison dwarf. I hope IF another referendum comes (which it shouldn’t as the first was meant to be once in a generation) I hope the electorate wake up to the fact they’ll be a lot worse off without funding from the U.K. perhaps we should threaten to remove the pounds validity in Scotland let’s see how they manage then.

What is it about the straw haired liar that whatever he says, people cheer him?

He went on ad nauseaum about taking control of his waters and sending the EU boats on their way with threats of gunboats (that cannot stop immigrants coming in, let alone a fleet of angry fishermen.. :D ) and then when this long awaited deal comes along, no change! EU continues for another 5 years, which will be ten with all the shouting - by which time the UK will be begging to get back into the EU... so you have no control. Still. And people crow about how wonderful it all is! Crazy days :D

Personally I think she has been disingenuous with the Scots who I don't think are daft enough to vote for independence. It would make them very poor and despite what Nicola says the EU would not accept Scotland for a whole host of reasons. Jim

With Brent Oil and Salmon the Scots are not soo poor. They voted against Brexit to stay in the EU which to me means if they are independent they will want to join the EU.
In which case they will be welcome.

Living in France you might consider the break up of the UK as a bad thing but as someone who lives here I'd have no problem in the Scots going their own way. I even agree they have a case for Indyref 2 because Scotland voted as a region to remain within the EU and hence I can understand why Nicola thinks she's due for another vote.

And I would guess that if England was allowed a vote in that referendum then Scotland would be independent.

But the Scots won't break away and Sturgeon has no intention of actually making that break. It's just posturing and another lever to get more out of the UK budget.

If I were Boris ? I'd offer Nicola her referendum in 2021 and not campaign on either side. Then they can join the EU, adopt the euro and you guys can look after them.....

No i don't consider the breaking up of the UK as a bad thing nor a good thing.
It's their choice as should be.
I just consider myself as a European and i see the future is united Europe
I hope that the UK will not regret Brexit.
I wish the best for everyone.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
