Metric and Imperial spanners

It's getting rather difficult to find Imperial spanners in ordinary shops nowadays so I did an Internet search and found this bargain:

A set of Sealey spanners in both Metric and Imperial. 22 Spanners in all and costing only just over ?1 per spanner.


So I've bought a set and they arrived today.

If you know a friendly snap on salesman, they used to provide a single sheet of information showing nominal spanner sizes, and actual spanner opening sizes. Often you can find something very close to what you need without buying an extra spanner.

Siegen tools is apparently part of the Sealey Group (in small print on that label).

They arrived today and they look like very reasonable quality.

Not super-duper like ?100 sets, but then these are about a fifth of the price.

I already have quite a few metric and some imperial ring spanners, but I felt I needed some more so that I could have these new ones in the garage workshop and pack sets to carry in my two cars.

PS these are marked Chrome Vanadium and DIN 3113A.

The ends are polished and they look Drop-Forged.


PPS: When are spanner manufacturers going to realise that one often needs TWO spanners of a given size, so it would make much more sense to put different sizes on the two ends of a single spanner, so that one would have one open end spanner and a separate ring spanner for any given size.

Sigh. I don't 'spose they will do that as you would not need to buy as many spanners.

I ordered a set after reading this, used them for a few weeks nothing wrong with them.
You can never have enough 1/2 af and 13mm spammers I just don't know where they go.

I have a set of these which I've been using for a few years now and no breakages, rounding off or any rusting, they are in my humble opinion a nice set of spanners

The first spanners I bought, many years ago, were in two sets, one of open-enders and one of ring (box-end for my American friends).
Each set consists of 1 at 3/8 and 7/16, 1 at 7/16 and 1/2, 1 at 1/2 and 9/16 etc. I'm talking now of A/F sizes, they were similar for BSF and Metric.
So for any nut size you had 2 open- end and 2 ring spanners. Moreover, the ring spanners had good but different offsets for hard to reach places.
I hate these modern combination cheapskate tools.
