I used to keep them in a 5 gallon bucket and then it was two buckets, now they are spread about the house and pickup truck, I think there is one at every entry door. My friend has a collection like you, his hammer draw is a couple times the weight of all the tools I have. Some folks collect hammers some collect small cars and... and... and... you get the picture.

I used to have a snap-on screwdriver collection too but they got lost or broke

well Bilco ?been racing for 30 years[ until my ?big one? put me out] and the need for a lathe was never an issue .Most tools used were hand tools wrenches sockets ?big hammers all portable and transported with the race car . Most of the tools you need after you spread your car down the track and create a yard sale are body parts and suspension parts , some wheels and tires a few bandages or time in hospital . you dont make them up on a lath or drill press you just buy them and bolt them on . A welder, small and portable, gas is best as hydro power isnt always available at a track so you can heat and straighten chassis mountings or weld them back on to accept the replacement bits ?.the same jobs you do a the track you do in the garage so when the motor blows the machine shop/engine builder fixes it and you will just plug it in the car just as you will your spare motor at the race to get out for the next session ??..oh yes if you want to make a small fortune racing cars ?start with a big one ??.goodluck ed

Maybe, but making things is fun . When I was young and living at my parents I had to make do with hand tools.

With my own house and a dedicated garage/workshop areas solely for the Elan I can now indulge myself

12 Tonne press
TIG welder
150l compressor
Band saw
Engine hoist and stand

These have paid for themselves many times over, especially the lathe and CNC mill (plus the CNC is bloody good fun).

You can never have enough tools. Looking at the photos of the hammers. I have at least 8 tape measures as I could never find one when I need one. The same with hammers so I have a drawer full (when I collect them up)
