Widened steel wheel

PostPost by: Bud5000 » Mon Sep 23, 2024 8:49 am

Hi all
My Plus 2 wheel is stamped 4 and a 1/2 inches but has been widened to 5 and a 1/2. Is this common or just my wheel?
All the others are correct at 5 and a 1/2.

Hi,
An Elan +2 as standard equipment has a 5.5J x13 rim.
Your 4.5J x13 rim is probably from a 'baby' Elan and is incorrect for a +2.

Cool I see, thanks for the info.
Weird that it was widened, considering the car was only imported into NZ in 2019. Shouldn't have been difficult to find a factory rim in the UK.
I'm removing the 20 year old tyres, cleaning up the rims and fitting new tyres, when I saw the size.
Out of interest the tyres are from China, Germany, England and the former Yugoslavia. So I thought best not to take a chance with reusing them.

In my experance round and true steel +2 wheels are like rocking horse poo. Thats why I went to alloys.
That was over 20 years ago.
Cheers
