Worn steering wheel hub splines

I have an aftermarket steering wheel hub with worn splines to the point of the hub wobbling a bit on the
shaft. A new hub is about US$125. First, is it possible to 're-spline' the hub and second, is it worth it?

I think I know the answer but there might be a glimmer of hope out there.

Most of the location is done on the taper, is it fully tighten

It's been off the car for a while but I tried it on a spare column and when pressed down on the taper,
there's still some wiggle. I imagine then if the nut were tightened, it may not be a problem? I'm
not sure I'd trust it. I have some old Cortina wheels and they fit perfectly tight throughout the range,
ie, fully up and fully pressed down.

I think you need to buy a new hub boss ,
As the column is steel and the hub or boss is I think aluminium.If there was any play due to not being tight there will only be one winner the column

As you say you have tried other s wheels and are ok I think you know the outcome

Just a thought could you change the hubs or boss from the other wheels to the problem wheel to cure the problem

I thought about that but the aftermarket hub is hunk of aluminum and would need to figure out
how to fully, and I mean fully, attach a hub boss (steel) to this aluminum hunk. I don't think
it's worth it. Although Craven's thought process is probably valid as that his how our rear K/O
hubs attach to its tapered spindle, even without the keyway on some applications.

I think the hub is a paperweight for now.

What is your car an Elan or +2.
If it's a +2 early +2 or +2S.

On the Elan it's triumph spline.
On early +2 it's Ford.

Hmm, interesting. Although the splines in the hub are clearly very worn, and was on my Sprint decades
ago, and I'm using a *I think* a +2 column for testing, this could have been the wrong hub to begin with,
way back when.

How different are the splines between the two?
