master cylinder duo Girling

PostPost by: geni » Sat Oct 15, 2022 5:48 pm

hello lotusians ,
On the Elan Sprint LHD I have a "duo" brake master cylinder, the one with the reservoir attached from below.
It is defective and has the reference G646 765 970 32 I find it in the parts book, page JD= Parts n° 2.
I can't find any! except the gasket kit but incomplete!
So can we swap good dealer addresses in Girling.
Thanks for sharing

Hello Gérard,

would that be a 0.75" bore diameter (as for a Plus2 with booster) by any chance ? you may then find your reference under Girling 64676597 ...

Hello,
It seems to me that the gasket kit fits the Girling SP2610? what do you think?
I have to say that my Sprint doesn't have a servo.
So if you have any good addresses in Girling, please share.

Hello Gérard,

first you should try to make sure what the exact type of your master cylinder is (you can then find out the bore from the internet without taking it out and measuring) - if unsure you should take it out, dismantle it, inspect it (making sure it's not corroded to a point making it unsafe for road use), and measure it to order the proper dimension rubber kit... For instance I believe SP2610 would be for 0.70" bore while the MS number discussed prior was 0.75" diameter...

Hello,

I have dismantled my master cylinder, and it corresponds to 0.7" = 11/16 or 17.80m/m .
But where do you find the info to know the reference to the master cylinder number indicated?
I do not know all these details, knows why I ask this question.

Hello Gérard,

short of a photo showing the cast number, I just tried to guess from your previous post :

[quote="geni"
It is defective and has the reference G646 765 970 32 I find it in the parts book, page JD= Parts n° 2.
I can't find any!

then searched on the internet for Girling master cylinder numbers...

if you aready have the master cylinder out of the car, once checked for corrosion etc it should be relatively easy to order seals according to the dimension as measured (if stock no servo should be smaller than 0.75" and 64676597 does point to 0.70" bore so the kit you mentionned would fit )

Girling SP2610 is the right service kit for a 0.700" Dual circuit master cylinder.

While researching my recently acquired dual master cylinder 64676597 031, I came across this
thread. I bought this thinking it would make a nice spare for my '72 Federal Sprint. I think
it also has a Cortina application.

Just as an fyi, this cylinder has two bore sizes. The one closest to the pushrod, working the front
brakes (in an Elan, anyway) has a .70 inches bore size and further down in the bore, working the rear
brakes, the bore is .660 inches. I realize this cylinder part number could also have a .75" bore
and was wondering if the .75" bore go all the way through?

Also, does anyone with a .70 64676597 cylinder have that bore size go all the way through?
