S2 26R rack stop tube spacer

PostPost by: jabingb » Thu Jun 04, 2020 3:14 am

I have a 1.75" long spacer on the left side (non pinion) and nothing of the right side, am I missing something, believe that's the standard Elan setup? I also thought I read somewhere the 26R spacers were of a different length (because of the bigger tires and/or larger diameter anti-roll bar)?

I don't know about the 26R but a 1.75" spacer on the free end and 0.28" on the pinion end of the rack is correct for standard S1-S3 road cars. The short pinion end spacer is tack welded to the lock nut so may not be obvious at first glance. On S4 cars the spacers were increased in length to 2.0" and 0.53" to accommodate the change from 145 to 155 tyres.

Edit: There's discussion about additional spacers in this thread from a couple of years ago ... could that be where you saw it perhaps ?

Just to reiterate in reference to the previous thread, you can effect the spacers needed for a 26R, or in my case an S4, to accommodate wider tires and consequent fouling of the ARB via use of clip-on spacers. Can be installed in situ as well as dialed in to the precise size needed.
