Howcome some of the spindles have this little tit on them? Functional, or just something that didn't get cleaned-up in production? I haven't gouged myself on one...yet...

Its where the spindle has been parted off on a lathe before the bar stock is drawn out of the chuck to machine and part off the next one, its good machining practice to put the parted off parts iback in n the lathe chuck to finish machine the end face but time is money.

It definitely is not an OE part and perhaps is homemade, I would check that the material has the required hardness and that the threads are rolled and not hand cut with a die.

that said its not highly stressed.
