Wobbly wheel

After my shake down drive yesterday I decided to check the wobbly nearside wheel.. suspecting bearing

This is what came out... I had to cut the outer bearing off !

Slightly melted...

Loose rollers rattled around in the casing. ..

Bearing welded itself to the shaft...

Oooh. How noisy was it ?

wasnt noisy until last mile at 10 mph ...squeeled a little... and then on bumpy tarmac it clunked....
new stub and bearings ordered

When one of the Europa posters bought his car, he found the DPO had carefully lubricated all wheel bearings with anti-seize compound. Sounds like a good idea, right? Wouldn't want your bearings to seize...

Perhaps he then moved on to an Elan?
