Cracked rear o/s Hub

PostPost by: Bahamayellow » Sat Sep 19, 2015 4:28 pm

I have just been to have some new wheels and tyres fitted for hill climbing and the guys at Demon Tweeks noticed I have a split in one of the webs on the rear o/s hub. Question is can these be welded and how likely is it to completely break the whole hub.

Get a new one, not worth the risk!

Hi, I think John is right. To weld cast iron satisfactorily the item needs to be pre heated considerably and cooled very slowly over days not hours. I would not want the worry in the back of my mind while hill climbing, that the job was done properly. It is not as though there is a shortage of hub choice out there. Lyn... 8)

Obviously I won't be using it at Shelsley today. I wasn't sure of the availability but as you say there are plenty of choices out there talking of which do I need to replace them as a pair? and what would be the recommendation in regards where to get them? I noticed that TTR has some in stock as does Paul Matty?

Many thanks
