Front Vertical Links +2

PostPost by: rmorgan12 » Mon Jun 15, 2015 10:11 am

Hi,

Are the front vertical links on a +2 the same as a Mk 1 Spitfire/Herald (they look exactly the same)or is it only the GT6's that fit. I see their is a set on ebay which look exactly the same but I'm not quite sure. I thought I remember reading a similar thread that the size of the stub axle taper might be different?

Cheers Rich

I seem to recall the Herald stub axles are smaller so if you try to use the uprights your larger stubs wont fit as the taper is smaller?
I think they have smaller bearings as well with the smaller discs etc.

The early Spitfire ones - like the ones pictures on Ebay - are identical. They have the same Lotus part number. Back in the late 1970s, I replaced a vertical link and stub axle in my Europa, and the local import dealer had these Triumph Spitfire parts in stock.

FWIW, the GT6 stub axles are the ones that are beefier and do not fit. HTH.

Hi,
Believe this pip identifies the upright we use; very early Herald definitely has smaller taper and smaller bearings ID & OD. I also think the early upright had a different trunnion angle!

Hi Ron

Just had a look at my vertical link and seen that there is a definite pip on it.
I will only use the upright with the pip on it.

Thanks Rich
