axle to hub fit

Hi,
Shouldn't the axle end (not the threads) be flush with inside of the hub? After heating the hub and using a 12 ton press, mine are still 1/16" away from being flush when it would not move further. I guess I can apply more heat and pressure if it should be flush.
Thanks

No it is not supposed to be flush - you pull the hub on with the axle nut and ifs flush it stops pulling ! you do not need to press it on. Just lap the fit between the hub and shaft taper then bolt it up to the specified torque
The taper fit on the hub does not need a large amount of pressure to fit it. With a 12 tonne press pushing it on you may never get it off again !
cheers
