Front Springs - ride height

PostPost by: mdf » Tue Sep 09, 2014 12:01 am

I am running 12" 120 pound springs on the front of my Elan. I would like to raise the ride height a bit (an inch or so). Any advise on what lenghth or pound springs to run would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you increase the free length for the same 120 lb / inch rate spring by 1 inch then the compressed length at normal load will also increase by an inch and this will raise the ride height by a little less than an inch due to the angle of the spring shock unit. With non standard springs you really need to fit adjustable front and rear spring platforms to set the desired ride height if you don't have them.

I have recently acquired a second Elan and it rides significantly higher than my other Elan. I think it looks a bit odd but maybe it is just not what I am used to. What is the stock spring length? From my understanding of the shop manual the correct ride height is such that the lower wishbone is parallel to the ground. Is there a handling trade-off of the the higher ride height?
