tyres for my 71 Elan Sprint

PostPost by: collins_dan » Fri Jul 05, 2013 9:44 pm

My local tire guy checked the wheels to make sure they are true which they are. I have now dropped off for powdercoating. Once back, my local tire guy can supply the defenders for a good price and mount them without tubes. He is an old Alfa racer, so very good at fitting new rubber on old wheels. I'll post pictures when done. Dan

I too have a '71 sprint and the Vredstein Sprint+ tyre. They aren't the prettiest but work really well in the wet and they are good value too. However they are T rated (115mph?) in case you want to redline your little car in top gear! I think there is a 155 section sprint with an H rating though and a classic with an S.

Cheers,

Ian

I actually think the H rated Vredstein Sprints tyres look nicer than the Michelins but there again I would as I have them fitted :D.
If anybody wants a photo let me know and I will post one..

Look good,
How do they perform? And...what is the spec, type and cost?
The car looks nice, from what I can see. Mines gold leaf, just being repainted, my wheels were silver from new. I need a good wheel if you know of any?
Thanks
Bob

Bob,
I don't race my Elan and treat her like a 40 year old car driving at normal road speeds ( and perhaps a bit higher). I don't have any complaints. I have not had any problems in the wet either, they seem fine.

Spec are 155 HR 13 ( not the usual TR rating) and cost was about ?60 each, so don't cost the earth... And about half the cost of the 'other' HR rated Tyres...

even though not standard in any way B U T a modern tyre which isn?t like the ones you folks are constantly talking about: yokohama 15 60 13 A539. just something worth considering: about 40 to 50 quid a piece! sandy
PS: my car has loads of unoriginal stuff (160hp etc..), but everything modified as colin would have!

Universal Tire in Hershey, PA. The H-rated tire is $93, and the T-rated is $75. Shipping was $38 and very prompt.

The posts refer to the Sprint Classic, which is a different tire. I've had the Sprint+ (in T-rated form) on my car for several years and many miles, with no problems.
