Traction control trigger wheels

I am fitting a traction control system to my 67 baby. I have sussed the rear but having problems with the front. Anyone have any ideas on how to go about fitting a trigger wheel to the front suspension? The sensor needs to pick up around 12 pulses per revolution to be useful. Thanks. Steve

Castellate the disc and fir a VR sensor (from a scrapped ABS system) on the caliper

Identify suitable alloy wheels with 12 spokes, fit stiff cardboard with plastic spring tensioned clothes peg and use an audio sensing arrangement.

Possible problem with harmonics between two front wheels, anyone have a suggestion of how to resolve??

A fly in the ointment - Wet Weather :!:
Playing cards have a coating that may prove suitable for temporary wet weather use but then you will need something else to provide a louder 'click' to overcome the sound of the Dunlop SP40 Aquajets working. Corrugated cardboard just turns to mush.

We may need to revise our thinking here, in the meantime . . .

The m,ost likely thing I can think of would be to mill slots in the back of the rotor so you can mount the VRS on the upright.

I' m not an ME, but it looks like there should be enough material there that it won't weaken it too much.

My other thought was to weld on some metal there for the VRS, but I am not sure what the clearance is, and I am too lazy to go out in the cold garage to look.

--- on the ???? in my wallet!
I would just like to develop an ABS system on her spending.

Never trust someone who buys perfectly good fabric, cuts it up into small pieces and then sews it back together again to make quilts with ridged seams in them! :roll:

I have now designed a trigger wheel (with 36 teeth) that bolts to the back of the disc with the sensor secured using the caliper bracket bolts.

So, fortunately, I won't be needing to ruin a good pack of playing cards :-)

This is for both launch and traction control systems, not ABS.

Can't see the problem there as Ive had ABS on my plus2 for years with VR sensors and no problems

For me the fun of the elan is the lack of automatic traction control.

Interestingly on my daily car with Pirelli tires the ABS used to kick in almost every time it rained. usually on the same manhole cover on my way to work.
about 2 years ago I fitted cheap nankang tyres. now the Abs only kicks in occasionally, on gravel or on very slippery ground.

Many Elans are driving around on very good but very old tyres which have gone hard and loose traction in the wet.

Interesting project though. A class mercs have an interesting braking tracking control system. I think it was developed after early car had a tendency to roll over?

Oh yes the Elk test :lol: :lol: , most amusing for all of us at BMW, I couldn't help grining when sitting next to an A class in a traffic jam.
But they did learn a lot from that.
ASC they called it "Automatic stability control". BMW now has DSC; all of them spin offs from the wheel sensors for ABS.
