For me 3 years without covers produced more wear than 24 years with.

Hi - Excellent question as I'm just rebuilding mine.
One other thing I also have a turned aluminium spindle that sat on top of the old strut and was then covered by the rubber dust sleeve - what was this for and should i put it back?
Thanks
Dave

That'll be the spacers that make the bump stops come into operation sooner in the suspension travel. Mine doesn't have them and does seem to 'bounce' too low in dips in the road, particularly with 2 & 'a half' people & a boot full of luggage (& tools!) on board... I suggest you don't get rid of them.

Al,
I replaced my insert dust covers, got them from Christopher Neil.
Phone 01606 41481, ask for Don or Paul.
See their Online Catologue, Rear Suspension, LRS140 Insert Dust Cover ?12.92 each + vat.

Hi,
I was in exactly the same situation with one dust cover missing. Thought of binning the remaining one as the guy who sold me the shocks told me that it was not needed. In the end I changed my mind and made one from an old washing up bottle . Found one that fitted the bump stop really snuggly, trimmed to it match the other side and sprayed it black. Now its fitted it passes a quick inspection, a closer look then
Chris.

Hey,
I've got Buxton mineral water bottle bits in my Spyder coil-overs to stop the skinny springs rubbing on the shox!

John,
I thought I would try and keep alive that Lotus tradition of using anything in the garage that fits , although the particular bottle I used is no longer made and the makers tooling has been destroyed
ps: you should see what i've done with me old toilet rolls
Chris.
