Fitting Rear Hub bearings?

More heat and a few good whacks and I managed to get the shaft and bearings removed. Rust does indeed seem to have been the culprit, and there was a coating of it on the shaft between the bearings although both ends were free of it. The inner bearing is still quite well stuck on the shaft but that will be a project for next weekend.

After getting the inner bearing on I noticed that it has a short spigot on one side, which is the side facing the dust shield. Before I assemble any further, is this the right way or the wrong way? I can't tell from the bits of the old bearing which way it was oriented.
