Safety wire knock off spinners?

TTR, from whom I obtained by 26R hubs/spinners, did not use safety wiring on his spinners over a 16 year career of racing a 26R. Never had a wheel loosen. But, maintained "surgical cleanliness" on the wheel/spinner mating surface as well as spinner/hub threads. Plus, hammered up the spinners tight.
TTR acknowledges that "safety wiring" is of current fashion but not part of his experience. Leaves it to you to make the choice.
