Clonk gone, it was defective inner bushes sliding in the arm

PostPost by: garyeanderson » Fri Jul 29, 2011 8:08 pm

A photo of the bushes that were removed, the two that were swapped yesterday have a nice coat of surface rust started, sticky here today. The bush on the right is the only one that was holding and the reason appears to be the rust held it. All 4 bush measured 1.350 or less in diameter. Live and burn, give and learn,

Gary,
Hope you don't mind me inserting this news here: as I posted elsewhere, Pat Thomas at Kelvedon is now listing bushes with polyurethane instead of rubber- not the top-hat things but standard-looking items, like the ones you have shown..
How do you find the time to photograph work in progress? I always finish the job/day and think- damn, I wish I had got the camera out.

I forget lots of stuff, happens more and more I hate to waste an opportunity to tell a story, I didn't take one photo of my S2 in Gettysburg when the exhaust was plugged and it was on the trailer, I was too busy. In the case of this job, the camera just sits on the Elan seat or Cortina bonnet and when I need to wipe my hands I take a bunch of pictures. Then thrash some more. The work stuff doesn't happen often now as its all outside work and that limits things here. The other thing that limits things is money.

Nice one Mike! But it does not show all of us with our heads at work.

The spare A frames I have measures 34.5mm ID but it is not an orginal one so may not be totally correct.

0.5mm / 20 thou interference fit seems about as tight a fit as i would want.

cheers

Hi rohan did you ever end up using any of those bushes that were 20 thou bigger than the a arm holes? As you may have noticed from my other post I have the same discrepancy...don't want to split those arm holes trying to force them in, a world of pain would ensue! Maybe I should just go poly and be done with it......
