Selection of tires in Canada

PostPost by: loueelotus » Thu Oct 20, 2022 12:24 am

Hi, all. Got a question more for the Canadian and US Lotus people.. I bought 4 Kumho's Solus TA11 155/80R13 here is Quebec and used them for about 6 months and noticed a shimmy starting a few months after installing them I brought they to a specialist with Road force balancing machine who rebalanced them and told me the tires were all out of round .. I never let the tires sit in one position for more that 3-4 days if not driven .. So I need good tires that will not do this.. Any answers to purchase in Canada or USA 155/80R13..I have looked at many But they seem to be average tires.. I saw Hankook tires in Canada are they good?

Thanks,
Lou

I like what Dougal sells

viewtopic.php?f=42&t=51532

For shoulder season, I use Toyo winters, as they are sticky in cold, and handle wet well. My preferred for a road trip.

Is where I got mine.

I bought a set of these exact tires in November last year before the car went into storage for 4 1/2 months during which the car did not move... Out of storage mid-may. Since that time the car has done 1,000 miles & I absolutely love these tires :D

I came from 175x13 Michelin MXVs which rotted with age, the Kumhos are inexpensive ($65 each), good grip in both the dry & wet... no issues with balance whatsoever...

What pressures are you running? Have you discussed with the dealer or Kumho? Surely they are still under warranty...

Sorry Pharisso - missed that. That particular tyre does not seem to be available in the UK. D

What i have been using.

https://www.toyotires.ca/tires/winter-t ... erve-gsi-6

Just got another set last year, but…seems 13” are no longer offered :(

They are good and sticky, as winters are the softest compound. Square shoulders, great in wet. What’s not to like.

These look good

Hankook Winter i*cept IZ2 175/70R13

Dunlop Winter Maxx 2 175/70R13

Nokian Nordman 7 175/70R13

All available in the Great White North

IRONMAN manufactures most of its tires in China !

I wish Toyo still made these in 13”. I believe Toyo has the highest quality control.
I would get tyres that if one goes bad, you can get another. Unlike me and my now defunct Toyo. Then again, the others have been on and good for 10 yr and 4000km.

NANO ENERGY3 155/80 R13

VARIO V2+ 155/80 R13

Australian?????

My problem is always when DOT looks at the code, and notices it is not a legal tyre in Canada. I understand Douglas are not really either, but there is good explanation for a 60+ year old car.

I cant find the 155, and 80? Was 155 65 not stock on your car?

Maybe explain more please loueelotus, as this is a never-ending debate here in Canuckleland.

I will get back to you on where and the type of TOYO both in the USA and Canada but I saw the Canadian price was ridiculous..3X USA $.. Also the original size was 145/HR13 an the biggest fit on S2 Elans were 155/80R13

Interesting thing is happening.. When I increase the tire pressures the tires seem to have much less shimmy.. I am at 25 lbs. in the front and 30 in the back.. I will increase it some more as I drive it;;
