I recently purchased a 1972 Elan+2. The wheel nuts are printed with “Steel Wheels Only”.My car has alloy wheels. I saw a picture in one of the Elan books of a wheel nut that was printed with “Alloy Wheels Only”.
Is the a different angle or taper for the wheel nuts depending on wheel material ?Thanks

Lots of discussion on this at various times on the forum. I’ve had my +2 since 89 and probably put 40,000 miles on it and the only reason I took off the “steel wheel only” Nader nut from my alloy wheels is because when I would show it I didn’t want it to look “off” so now I have plain ones. When I was part of that discussion I would put paint on the tapers and put them on the different wheels and there were a lot more sophisticated measurements than that in the discussion but I never thought it made any difference and never saw any of the galling that some people suggested would happen.
