INTERESTING REAR INSERTS

I bought some rear struts recently and this is what I found for the inserts, which I have not seen before. Usually the inserts are sealed up, but these are like a meccano set, with parts that appear to be removeable, with O ring seals. Also, the bottom of the insert is completely different from Armstrong / Koni / Monroe, in that there is some sort of valve, that when the chrome rod is pulled up, it sucks up oil from the reservoir. I suspect these are quite old.

I believe these are the original 1960's dampers, they predate the inserts. The brass plug on the side strut tube was so that they could be topped up. Nice find.

Ford Anglia parts or very close derivatives of. The humble English Ford was the first to adopt Earl McPherson’s wonderful invention. He actually came up with the idea whilst working for GM in America. They couldn’t find a use for it so off he went to Ford UK!
